Faith in Action
Church of the Western Reserve is committed to “hands-on” opportunities
to help make God’s love known in the world. In addition to
monetary contributions, we look for ways for church members to “live
the faith,” by reaching out to a hurting world. All ages
participate! Our children have once a month “Mission
Sundays” during the worship service, when they work on a specific
mission project.
Currently, we are focused on the following areas:
- Hunger Ministries -- supporting our ongoing commitment to eliminate hunger.
- Collect food the first Sunday of every month for the Hunger Bus (a Cleveland area ministry)
- Work at the local Foodbank
- Participation in the annual CROP WALK (an ecumenical fundraising event for hunger)
- Self-Development
of People -- supporting the efforts of people who are working to
improve their current life circumstances.
- Ongoing
relationship with the New Life Community, a transitional facility for
homeless families in Cleveland. We’ve provided items ranging from
camping equipment, school supplies and Christmas gifts to support this
ministry.
- Holiday Bazaar – featuring items from developing countries, as well as local artisans.
- Disaster Assistance
- Mission
Trips: June, 2006, was our first mission trip. 18 folks,
(12 adults and 6 youth) spent a week in Gulfport, Mississippi helping
to rebuild following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. Plans
are underway for a return trip, as well as for other local projects.
