Faith in Action

Church of the Western Reserve is committed to hands-on opportunities to help make God’s love known in the world.   In addition to monetary contributions, we look for ways for church members to live the faith by reaching out to a hurting world.  All ages participate!   Our children are encouraged to participate in once-a-month Mission Sundays when they leave the worship service, to work on specific mission projects.

Currently, we are focused on the following areas:
  • Hunger Ministries  -- supporting our ongoing commitment to eliminate hunger.
    • Collection and delivery of food for the Cleveland Foodbank

  • Self-Development of People  -- supporting the efforts of people who are working to improve their current life circumstances.
    • Ongoing relationship with New Life Community, a transitional facility for homeless families in Cleveland.  We’ve provided items ranging from camping equipment, school supplies and Christmas gifts to support this ministry.
    • Holiday Bazaar – featuring items from developing countries, as well as local artisans, with all proceeds going to the Cleveland Foodbank.
    • Fair Trade Coffee - By using Fair Trade Coffee in our fellowship and celebrations, we help farmers and their families in developing countries build sustainable businesses that positively influence their communities.
    • Our children and youth periodically prepare kits containing food and personal hygiene items for the homeless.
    • North Church - We assist this Presbyterian congregation by participating in their worship services and in the preparation and serving of meals for about 125 inner city residents. We also provide Christmas gifts of needed or requested items for the members and their children.
    • Cuban church - We have assisted a Presbyterian church in Cuba, former home of one of our members, to rebuild their facilities and ministries with financial assistance and the contribution of needed items.

  • Disaster Assistance
    • Mission Trips - Every year in June, our youth and adult chaperones travel to a region of our country for one week to help the people of those areas rebuild their lives after experiencing great losses: Gulfport, Mississippi; Wheeling, West Virginia; Peever, South Dakota; New Orleans, Louisiana; and Louisville, Kentucky are all beneficiaries of our hands-on mission trips.
    • Denominational Support - Our annual financial offerings to the Presbyterian Church (USA) help support our denomination Worldwide Ministries of disaster assistance, medical benevolence and aid to those areas of the world affected by natural disasters.
